Empowering Brooks through fibre internet connectivity

It’s like a superhighway, but for the internet! The City of Brooks and their partner, Community Network Partners, are working hard to build an open access fibre-optic network, called BrooksNET, that will allow residents to access the fastest internet technology available.

Here’s how it works: the City of Brooks is building the fibre-optic network, just like how they would build a road. And just like how trucking companies use the road network to transport goods, Galaxy Fibre will use the BrooksNET network to provide services like fibre internet and TV.

Why is this important? Well, by providing their residents with access to the fastest internet technology, the City of Brooks is welcoming new opportunities for community and economic growth

The City of Brooks is moving full speed ahead with their BrooksNET fibre-optic network project. They’ve divided the city into seven “Service Zones” – A through G – which you can check out on the BrooksNET website or their social media accounts.

Construction has already been completed in Zone D, so customers are starting to enjoy the lightning-fast internet speeds. The crews are now hard at work in Zone C, and will be moving counter-clockwise through Zones A, B, E, G and F. The plan is to finish all construction by the end of 2023, so stay tuned for updates on the progress.

BrooksNET is a fibre-optic network built by the community, for the community. Since there are no stockholders demanding high profits, they can offer more affordable services than privately-owned networks.

For every customer that accesses the network, the community receives $10/month. That’s right, you’re making a positive impact on your own neighbourhood just by paying your internet bill.
